Drakkar Noir
Earlier this year, my friend David back in Cincinnati gave me a mission, should I choose to accept it, to track down an old Camaro to use as artwork for his in-progress single, Drakkar Noir, for his band Coast Off. I told him I would see what I could do. After several weeks of just keeping my eyes open, I decided on a more proactive approach and contacted a few car clubs in the area. I couldn’t believe how easy it ended up being. Turns out, car people love to have people take photos of their cars. I found a guy with a mint ‘92 Camaro, just like the line in the song. I met up with Jeff and his car one Saturday morning in a parking lot overlooking the valley. The whole shoot was pretty painless and took maybe 20 minutes. The late-morning lighting conditions made editing a struggle, but I was able to soften the harshness with a polarizing/mist filter, some color-grading, and significantly warming up the highlights. One of my favorite details is the subtle bloom on the brightest highlights.
Big thanks to David for always supporting my photography and giving me a reason to get out of my comfort zone with this project. Check out his new single Drakkar Noir above, and give his band Coast Off a follow here: Bandcamp, Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music.
